  • Skylight

39 hours of labor amid 19 trips to the airport plus 6 weeks downtime, and I now have the skylight completed. Maiden flight was this afternoon and the canopy effect is just WFC. It may get hot at times, and the roominess may be somewhat illusory, but that is far outweighed by the vastly improved visibility. Add me to the ranks of those who believe this is one of the top safety improvements for this aircraft.

Whose skylight method did you use... Clayton's STC, Rob Lees' version, my unofficial drawings, or your own new design? Congratulations on making such a great improvement that increases safety as well as enjoyment!

      Re: Skylight

I would not keep an aircraft with an inherent blind spot that could be corrected with a skylight. In my thinking a mid-air collision is the greatest danger I face when flying. Good job Mike!

        Re: Skylight

I used Clayton's STC. I meant to also mention it's nice to be able to get at the forward trim mechanism now, for those times when it misbehaves.
