Has anyone out there tried one of those RG batteries in their T-craft?

    Re: Recombinant gas batteries

I have an RG battery in my Bonanza and it works very well. I like the fact that it has no maintenance and there is no chance for corrison. The down side to RG batteries is that I belvie they have to be used more often as they don't hold a charge as long as a regular battery.

They are nice! As long as you cycle it every so often they work as good as a regular lead acid battery. I think they are pretty easy to get a field approval for.... I don't know if there are any FAA approved for the Taylorcraft?

I put an RG-25 in mine. According to Concorde it is a simple log book entry. It has the same dimensions, same weight, more amps and will never spill acid in my plane.

The only caveat, which I'm sure applies to all batteries, don't leave the master on for a week. If you do, you just bought a new battery.....

My Father uses a Concorde RG35 in his Bonanza. He replaces it every 3-4 years and I put the used one in my pickup. It ran another 3 years no problem. Another benefit to this technology is lack of sulfation damage to the plates when you drain the battery down all the way. A flooded lead acid battery is damaged when drawn down.
