Had my new A&P do a good look at the surface pitting on our fittings. He visually determined it to be only a few thousandths into the material.
So.. I called up Andy McAnaul and had a chat. Andy said according to the factory drawings the material used for the fitting was .095" +/- .005" 1025 mild steel.
He said if my corrosion goes no deeper into the metal than .005" then it still meets factory specs and passes the AD.
I believe the pitting only goes .003" or .004" into the fitting in any given area.
So what I need to do now is determine the material thickness at the pitting sites. Any ideas??
Also I DESPERATELY need a copy of the factory drawing for the part. I need it for documentation purposes so my AD can attach it with the signoff.
