  • Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge

Kind of a stupid question but it appears my Stewart Warner oil temperature gauge has died. It's the mechanical type, not electric. Can the gas-filled tubes on these be replaced?

Sorry. Just realized my subject line references oil pressure. This is for oil temperature.

Search keystone on this board. They also have a website. They are good but slow. You will also find contact info for Wolfe. Good luck it'll probably be around $300+

      Thanks for your reply!

Did some digging around and found that the gauge in my airplane is still produced by Stewart Warner and goes for a whopping $35, including the 48" capillary tube. Whether this gauge should have ever been installed in an airplane is an entirely different matter? SW lists this item as a water temperature gauge. Part numbers match and the large SW logo on my gauge dates it to the early 1950s. Current version is identical except for a smaller logo.

The earliest photos I have of my plane are from the late 1960s and the gauge has been there at least that far back.

As an aside, the folks at Stewart Warner are great. Spoke with a person on the phone for a few minutes. Shot them an e-mail with a photo and they were able to tell me when it was made and confirm the part was still produced. 82210-48 Temperature Gauge, Mechanical.

Is it a stand alone gauge or part of a 3 in 1 cluster? That sounds like a very good price!

I believe I got one from Univair for a price close to that, give them a try.

            Howard,
Mine is a standalone. I have an L-2 with an A-65 -- no electrical.

All L-2Ms and the last 50 L-2As had the three in ome gauge (oil Press, oil Temp and fuel Press) with the fuel section painted out. Dick

I'm hoping to convert mine back to the proper panel -- at some future point.

From my logs, it looks like my original L-2M plywood panel was reconfigured back to the early -A/B panel back in the late 1940s. Not sure if this was a requirement before these could go into the civil market? The spoilers were removed at the same time.

There were no changes required on any of the model "D" ships when they were surplused. I have run into "M"s with the early panel before but that was an indidual owner choice. The spoilers did NOT have to be removed and can be reinstalled without any paperwork. Dick
