My dad just had a starter installed on his L2B, it still has an A65-8. There is a guy in Michigan that developed this starter, he has an STC for it. The starter system puts a flywheel between the prop and flywheel, then there is a hole in the nosebowl for the starer gear to come through. The starter is run by a 19.2 volt cordless drill. In the cockpit there is a T Handle like the old Cesnas. When I operate it I prime the engine, pull the prop through 4 times then get in the cockpit, pull the T Handle and it starts up, this way I don't run the battery down too fast by cranking the engine over a lot. I think this is a good alternative to putting in a -12 engine and electrical system which is what we were planning to do. The whole system installed was a little over $2000.
