  • Crispy Critter: Another new beginning

Ok all you computer smart people. I want to set up a web page or at least a quick easy way for any t-crafter to access pics and captions as Crispy once again is reborn. Suggestions please from everyone who knows this stuff. Keep in mine that I not very book smart and have just learned to post pics, resize, and edit them a little bit(I still can't make those little arrows and circles that point everything out). I will probably set up another gallery page and use it.At least I know how to post, caption, and edit them on there but if anyone wants to help me with a web site or something then I'm all for that too.
As for Crispy,we brought her out of storage yesterday, removed the windshield & boot cowl and guess what. The damage is nowhere near as bad as we thought it was before. I guess the tear-stained eyes and frustration made it appear much worse. Anyway, here are few pics taken today of the damaged areas. I have downsized these so if you want to see them more clearly you can go to the gallery and look them up in full size. I will be posting them all evening.

Kevin - there are several ways to approach this:

    1. upload the photos to a free gallery like the foundation has
    2. upload the photos to a 3rd party gallery like flickr or snapfish
    3. get an account at a web application like KitLogPro, used to document kitplane construction.
    4. get a website at a place like StartLogic or BlueHost or DreamHost and build your own website. This is not real hard, but I warn you, it is addictive. You can easily spend more time building web pages than T-Crafts, and that ain't good!

I have built and maintained the Taylorcraft Factory website, with the hopes that the T-Craft part numbers and photos would be an asset to the Tcraft community. People complaining about the factory website ripping off people because it advertises parts for sale are missing the main reason why I built it in the first place. It is a searchable reference document, just like a good photo gallery could be.

I think that there would be a lot of value in a T-Craft Rebuilder's website that would assist those who don't know what they are doing, to do better. Robert Lees has done an excellent job of documenting his rebuild, and that is available as a resource. Others have put photos of their projects up too.

I no longer have a Taylorcraft project to use as a model for illustrating a rebuild online, but that was my hope while we were building the Taylorcraft Sport in Brownsville.

      Kevin:

I think that's a great idea. Not only limited to "Crispy" for all others that regularly do repairs and modifications. Pictures would illustrate and keep the Tcraft legacy as the next generation of Tcrafters and first timers (as myself)go thru or has gone thru in the past, performing improvements and repairs. Pictures could be organized by topic, modification, etc... As others do their reconstruction projects, each could have their own picture site with comments, notes, etc... Mr. Web master... the ball is in your court. My 2 cents.

Kevin, I would be encouraged by the looks of things, I'm guessing the motor mounts didn't fair as well as the airframe? I held a straight edge up to the screen and the starboard long. is about 1.3 times the width of the tube in deflection could it cold flexed back? or is this a cut and weld tube's thing?

Re: Crispy Critter: Another new beginning

We are going to try a cold bend first. If it doesn't work then it will proabably become a cut & weld. My biggest concern is in the left forward landing gear attach fitting. The forward ear is bent in three(3) directions, none too major by themselves but all three together will be a pain if we try to straighten. I have had 2 people look at the pics and say it would be easy to straighten but I don't think they are looking at how much stress that little ear will have to go through and then need to hold the landing gear leg on for the next 30 years or so. I think the best thing to do is cut and replace the left forward gear attach fitting......anyone with experience have advise for us here? If you look in the photo gallery on Crispys last page I have added another album. It has several detailed pics of this and everything else on the fuslage that can be enlarged. Take a look and give me some honest experienced opinions.
