  • L-2B Marking question

I have a 1943 Taylorcraft L-2B. OD green with stars and bars. My question about markings regards the original numbers that the Army had across the fin and rudder. From the records I have for the plane I know what the numbers are, but in a great number of L-2 photos I have seen on the net it seems that for some reason the first digit of the number has been omitted. For example if the Army number was 43-4474, then the number on the airplane is 34474. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. thank you

    Re: L-2B Marking question

The Tech order on markings specify that it should be a minumum of four letters and should not have the leading digit ie 43-1 would be 3001. Dick

Thank You for your quick reply and for clearing the issue for me. My number was 43-325, so i guess that becomes 3325. Thanks again..Doug

          Doug,

Numbers should be block style with 45 degree corners. Color of numbers should be gloss yellow.

The only Taylorcraft drawing on the topic in the library is:

Not much help though because it directs you to

which does not address radio numbers. Gotta love the old blueprints...

As such you have to revert to the Army specifications in effect at the time of manufacture.
