  • Mag Question

I need some help guys. My engine is running rough on the right mag (top plugs) and this is mainly at high rpm under a load. Today when I flew, the runup was ok but when I checked it again on climbout the right mag was quite rough. The plugs and wires for both mags are new. I'm wondering if I could have a bad plug. Under load it feels like a steady miss. Today while flying I even got a steady miss on both mags. Is it related? I don't know but it only lasted for a few seconds so now I'm wondering if this could be a carb problem. I'm confused. The only thing I know for sure is that its on the ground until this is cleared up. I guess I could have gotten a bad plug. Could it be mag timing? That was just checked though at the last annual in December. Compression is good as well.

When I landed today I did another runup and the mag remained quite rough. If it had been that rough initially I would not have flown.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

      Re: Mag Question

      Hi Tom,

What mag drop do you get?

Have you traced the wires to be sure you have the top plugs on the right hand mag?

I would take out the top plugs and check them for obvious problems.

Any signs of water/moisture on the mag distributer or wire connetions?
