Re: Cracked Spar Pictures, how to post here?

    Daryl,
I'm not being vague on purpose, but if you had any idea the mess that job was, I can't begin to tell you how much time I spent on it, not within a hundred hours anyway! I quit a steady job, made new spars in my buddies helicopter hangar, stripped and primed the metal in my back yard, and put it all back together in the big hanger you saw in the pictures. Then took them so another shop for the fabric. But it was the excuse I needed to branch out on my own, and I don't regret it. I figure if I'm gonna be poor in aviation, I'll do it on my own!
I now have a small hangar, so I could do it all there, except the fabric. And I have a good friend with a proper shop for fabric that I can work in for nothing, and if he helps me or I help him, we just charge the same respectively. On projects that large, I'd hate to even venture a guess. Too many variables. If I tell you 2 grand to get you here, knowing full well it might be 20 isn't fair to you. All I can tell you is I'm fair and do the best job I can. I also made these spars, all by hand, which I ate a lot of labor on. I have a friend now with access to a full cabinet shop, so they'd be easy by comparison to do again. If you're interested, just let me know, I'll work with you any way I can.

      Forrest,
You were right on the emblem, it says Tolerton Co. on the top, and Alliance OH, on the bottom. Looks like the center says certified then "manufactured" I think. I took a picture of the front spar I replaced and cut in half, where I cut it, it is indeed 6 pieces of wood! And the grain lines are all different, so it would be hell for stout. I'm keeping them for patterns, just in case I or anyone else needs one.
Also, am I assuming correctly, that if I post pictures here linked from a picture page (photobucket in my case) that I'm not clogging this server with info? Or am I wrong? If it's taking a lot of space on this server, let me know. I know space is money. I take pictures of everything, so if it's not a bother space wise, I'd be more inclined to post more.

I looked back and can see Tolerton Co in the outer circle and Alliance, Oh at the bottom , the other is the process. I do not have a good photo for our collection , others may have one too!

The 3 I replaced were all origional. I'll see if any of the others have a clearer emblem and get you a better picture. I'll see what I can come up with.

I may need a spar replaced one of these days and I was just wondering if location made any difference in the average cost. Doesn't sound like it does. It is really expensive out here. High overhead and everything else. Hopefully it will be down the line a ways.

Hell, anything is cheap compared to California!! I guess that's why I'm still here! You guys out there are outta my tax bracket. If you decide to pull the trigger, let me know. Let me know what you'd want, and I'll try to put some figures together for you. I'm also fortunate that I can drive a few hours to Wicks for lumber and Superflight for dope is also within 100 miles. 18 foot boards would be expensive to ship, and the $20 hazmat to ship each can of dope and thinner adds up fast. Luckily I can still use dope here, apparently our lab rats don't get cancer from it like the ones you have in California!

Would a technical gallery with different classifications be a good idea? I would contribute when I take something apart or come up with a usable idea.

Re: Cracked Spar Pictures, how to post here?

Thanks guys, I figure we'll all get a little smarter if we pool our knowledge, isn't that what this forum is for? Sometimes things don't make as much sense, or seem as real unless you see examples. At least it's that way for me. That's why I take pictures of so many things. I always have my camera at the hangar. I take pictures or bad/scary things, and things that might help others, or things I hadn't thought of for future reference. Digital cameras make it too easy not to.
Can someone please tell me if the pictures posted from another website, like I did with the spar pictures, are taking up space here? I know space is money, and don't want to overwhelm the forum. But I have a lot more I could post, if it doesn't take up too much space.

For anyone who would consider Chris, (CJ-PT13Pilot), for work, I would highly recommend him. I have met him and dealt with him on an occasion or two and not only is he a nice guy, but knowledgeable, too. (I'll get ahold of you Chris in reference to those parts we spoke of awhile back).
                            Cheers,

                              Marty!!!
Good seeing you on here, and thanks!!! Are you still airplane-less? Speaking of instruments, I came home 2 weeks ago with a load of them, and got to spend the day with Boris Popov, founder of BRS. Right place at the right time, and ended up with 2600 new instruments for homebuilts! Nice side money! Hoping to turn those into a project/airplane for me. Give me a shout or email me about the parts you had.
