  • Trim Problem

I was flying today and attempting to roll in some nose down trim. I was unable to do this and no matter what I did the trim went to nose up. It finally got to the point where it took a lot of effort using both hands to keep the nose level. If I took my hands off the wheel the airplane went into an extremely steep climb. After landing I noted that the tab was down although not nearly as much as I expected. Moving the crank in either direction seemed to do nothing but apply more nose up trim. I could see the wheel turning inside the tail but the tab was either not moving or going further down. The tab is now in the full nose up position and will not move so obviously until that is fixed its grounded. This system has never been anything but a headache which is why i normally never touch it. It seems like the problem is in the elevator but I'm not sure. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks very much!

    Re: Trim Problem

check for proper procedure with the search function.
At the moment I would remove inspection cover at rear , and reset the trim system. slip cable off rear pulley with a welding rod hook, go into cabin wind cable back to neutral, look back into fusealge to see the spring and stops are in middle, go back to rear and wind pulley so trim goes neutral, lube if possible , small hole and screw, slip cable back on and ALWAYS know whioch way to crank. handle toward your ear, back is nose UP and forward is nose DOWN. NEVER take to extreme up or down , two turns each side of neutral is plenty. The cable is slipping on the rear pulley; NEW ones are only $10.00...... clean and adjust when it gets warm.

Tom, also keep in mind that when adjusting trim for takeoff or after landing, always place the elevator in the neutral position. This prevents the cable from cutting the guide in the tail.
