Is there anybody using or used the AvBlend and MMO[Marvel Mystery Oil] in our engine's oil ? and MMO in the fuel? My IA recomended he use of AvBlend & MMO=small amount at each oil change and to use MMO in the fuel [ 4 Oz per 10 gal]. I use MMO (even in my truck) but not the AvBlend. Would like to know some opinion and experiences before using it. Thanks

I use MMO in the fuel whenever I put AVGAS in it and lix per MMO intructions.
I merely want a top cylinder lubricant that's why I do it. I'dd probably use any top cyl. type oil, just like the red bottle I suppose.
I usually use Phillips XC 20-50 motor oil in the engine alone.
I believe that oil dosen't really need the additives but I suppose the case could be made for added alkalines in and old engine to neutralize the acids.
As I recall MMO has that.
I bet Terry Bowden will have some good thoughts about that.

In small Continentals, small radials, and anything else made to run 73-80 octane, I use MMO in the gas. It's a good lead scavanger. The Stearman doesn't move without it in the gas. Too much lead in the 100LL for these little engines.
We used it in bulk on a spraying contract using a Bell 47D1 (210 Franklin) and and R-22 with an O-320. Both flew 30-45 hours a week and I got tired of sitting around chiseling the lead out of fouled spark plugs. I talked the owner into dumping MMO in our bulk tank. Some days I had to clean the plugs on the 47 every day before that. After, I did it every 50 hours on both just as a precaution. Instead of hard lead balls, you'd have a thin film of white residue that came out easily with one swipe with a pick, like talc.
As far as Avblend goes, I found out it makes an excellent carbon remover. I used it the first few times as a last ditch effort because I had some others tell me about it's carbon removal qualities. Small continentals that love to stick valves, carbureted O-470's are another good one. I've had it bring a few engines back that I though I was going to have to remove cylinders on. IE ran fine, but compression low with ring seating problems I thought might be carbon related. At the last shop/flight school I worked at, we had 3 Katanas with the IO-240 Continental engine that loves to stick valves even more than an O-200. I did a lot of "rope and reams" on them to keep them going. They started using Avblend at oil changes, and we never stuck another valve. I don't belive most of their other claims, but as far as carbon removal/deterant it seems to work very well. But at $25 bucks a bottle, it's expensive.If you can read this, thank a teacher....

Thanks PT for response. After posting the question to the group I did some more research, digging from some of my notes from talking with folks in the CubClub & CessnaClub in the past, as well as notes from other mechanics and pilots. This is what I found out so far {just my summary};
1-AvBlend is a lubricant made out of molecular oils that work at all temps, with rust and carbon inhibitor=prevents carbon build-up and spark plug carbon. Helps the oil do the work by adding an extra coat-film of lubrication[if you look at metals using a micron microscope, even if the metal is polished as in the cylinders, still has holes/crevices and pourous that han house those small oil molecules that AvBlend provides]. Is to be added to the oil at the oil change and then run the engine/fly for a minimum of 15min.Check "avshop.com" they sell it for 17.95 + shpg
2-MMO is a detergent that cleans the inner parts of the engine helping the fuel do the job when added to the fuel @ 4 Oz per 10 gal. When added to the oil in small amounts, less than a pint[add when the oil starts to go down or at mid-way between oil changes (Why...I do not know maybe somebody knows?] will help the oil do the job in keeping the engine clean.
Per my father, retired Air Force pilot and WWII vet pilot, he tells me that the AF used to use barrells of that stuff and when not available, the mechanics used "hydraulic oil" instead !. He encourages the us of both, based on past experience. I have used the MMO in the fuel and oil, even in my trucks over the years....cant tell you the difference but my Jeep Cherokee has over 200K miles running good with just a minimum use of oil in between changes. Is it too late to add avblend to the jeep?
Apparently both of that stuff works...... hum...

Marvel Mystery Oil is one of those comforting, trustworthy friends that just plain works as advertised. That's getting pretty rare these days, but it is a truly great product.
MMO is a particularly good match for the small Continental engines. The A and C series engines have less than fabulous upper cylinder lubrication and far less than fabulous valve stem/guide lubrication. There's plenty of fuel in those areas, but not enough engine oil supply. So adding a little Marvel Oil in the gas makes a noticeable difference in lubricating the valve train and the rings. I believe there's a little detergent in there too, which cleans out and fights carbon buildup.
I've told this story here before, so I will refrain from the entire wretched tale, but the one time I didn't use the stuff in a T-craft is the one time I stuck an exhaust valve in Texas. Like Micky Dolenz says... now I'm a believer!

After searching the internet and a few calls later, appears that the best price is $ 69.95 for 4 cans + shpg at "avshop.com" too. [ better than the $ 17.95 I first got from them] or $ 17.49 per can.
