  • Small "Compass Card"

I just saw a small (1.5 inch?) compass card in a plane without a DG. It isn't hooked up to anything. Just a dial to turn to a setting and show the reciprocal or look at wind data compared to a runway heading.

I have checked my Sporty's catalog and looked through my trade-a-plane without finding one. Anyone know where to get one?

    Dan,

Check Wicks Aircraft, that's where I got mine, Chief Aircraft may have them too.

edit - oops sorry, mine was a 1.5 in compass correction card, I need to read better

I wonder if you are speaking of the vertical card compass? I bought one from Spruce or Shorty's, can't remember which one this past summer. I haven't had a good chance to use it since I am still down for the moment with the strut issue. Anyway I did do some investigation on the internet and didn't find anything good to say about them. Some rather bad comments in fact. I figured I'd buy one anyway and after fiddling with it some I thought it was working but my instructor pilot thought it was way off. I did "swing" it on our field. Do a Google and read what is out there. The bad comments came from an instrument shop and the problems they had with apparently getting a good one out of the box. Assuming mine is working properly I do like it much more than the wet compass. It is not as stable as a DG but beats a wet compass by a mile and easy to read.

OK, I just looked on Sporty's and think I see what you mean. Might be a handy device to have when navigating with a wet compass. Makes things easier to picture in my mind....

          Re: Small "Compass Card"

We used to have a Bonanza that had a T-12 Narco ADF in it with a single pointer and no rotating card, not a RMI type, and over the top was a plastic
manual rotating card that just stuck on the face of the instrument that allowed you to rotate to the heading of the A/C and then see the relative bearings given by the ADF kinda like a poor mans RMI, this type of device would be handy if not just stuck to the pannel to give relative bearings and such, Most vertical compases are going to involve a vac system or
electrical system to drive them with a slaving link, probably too much weight and complication for the typical older T-CART, don't know where to look but I'm going to take a look in sportys and other places like that.

Did you find on on Sporty's? I looked on their catalog and couldn't find one. Do you have a part number?
