  • strut inspection on the plane?

    I'm sure I could search and probably spend more time than I'd like doing so, but can someone let me know if any form of strut inspection can be done ON THE AIRCRAFT or must the struts be removed?

    I'm going to schedule my inspection as soon as I get the answer.

    Well, it is technically possible to inspect the struts on the plane but that does not comply with the service bulletin and hence the AD. So legally, the struts need to be removed, inspected, corrosion treated and reinstalled. (installation after a carefull compliance with the lift strut attach point service bulletin will probably preclude a re-do.)

    So short answer? The struts MUST be removed for AD compliance.

      The individual AMOC I have was based on an inspection performed on the aircraft.

        Hey, you are out there Bill! Was wondering what had happened to you...

        Sure, if you have an amoc that allows them to be done on the plane you can do it that way. I don't believe any of the "general" amocs allow that. Had you already previously corrosion treated them or did you do that insitu as well?

        If you have any extra rain out there send some our way, it's dry as powder here in Georgia.

          I read the posts here only a couple of times a week now. A few things happened, both on the group and in the privacy of my own mind, that somewhat soured me on being a really active daily participant any more. Time for someone else to play left field

          My primary corrosion protection on the struts is that I keep the airplane in a hangar in a dry climate. My front struts are Univairs anyway. I guess I will have to squirt some LPS or Boeshield in the rear struts sometime before the next annual, but I am confident that my airplane will fly safely and this entire issue has not been fully sorted out yet.

          My struts were X-rayed and came up 95%+ perfect. I got down on the ground and poked around the fitting up close and personal. I know my airplane better than 99% of the government inspectors who would show up to look at it...Game over.

            Hi Bill,

            Well I certainly have missed your presense and encourage you to jump back in. The group and the individuals are no doubt stressed out by the AD and its effects. It will pass. Please reconsider.

              Yeah me too!! I miss the wake up calls from the left once in a while.
              The struts can be inspected on the ship we proved that here in Alliance withe first round of digital radiography .

              I just thought it was a waste the first time around, due to the strut attach fitting inspection , same with the eddy current I believe we have done the best we could with the situation at the time. Bill, YOU may know your ship better than most , but that is not true for all owners.
              I know my ship too and still looped and rolled her the last time up!
