  • My struts

    Ordered struts from Airframes 10/16/07.
    Nice people.
    Projected delivery Nov 21/ 07
    Credit card charged early November.
Called for tracking number November 16 or so.
Informed that the struts were on the water to Seattle.
    Projected delivery Nov. 29, 07.
    Checked Fed Ex tracking No.
    Struts delivered Nov. 20/ 07.....
    to Mike in Yakima, Wa.

    T-Craft grounded till ????

There is nothing that the T-Craft could do on Nov 18 that it can not do on Nov 22. I sense a smoldering anger that may burst into a flaming rage across the land because of the blundering stupidity of our bureaucratic appointee's. Don't I wish!

Oh well. Tomorrow I will go out into the hanger, warm up the Indian Chief, shoot target through the open hanger door, and talk dirty to the T-Craft.

Maybe I'll call Airframes to find out who will get my next set of struts.

Yes I sure understand the frustration, I also have it, and yes, most of the A/C are ok, what I really feel now is that we should have inspected these, and gone on, but at first strike, like many I panicked and was affraid if I didn't get in line I would be grounded so I ordered parts back in Aug, and still have nothing, try that for size. I also think that if the FAA should have amended the AD to allow strut testing on A/C that would have helped also. We have a couple in Oklahoma that can do it that way, sure would have been much easier. I don't know how many out there are really upset? but I can assure you that this hasn't been a nice ride for me. In fact I never really have experienced anything quite like it in 46 years of aircraft operations.
Interestingly the 400 series Cessna folks were sucessful at staying off a potentiall lethal AD on thier wing structures. That particular AD would have
destroyed the value of 400 series Cessna's it took lots of time money and lobby but they got it done, and now applies to old exceptionally high time A/C
Guess we didn't have the clout

      Re: My struts

I ordered my struts from Univair 11/9/07, and picked them up at Tampa Airport 11/17/07. The air freight delivery charge was $80.00, no crating charge. (Great people to deal with!).
The struts are now painted and ready for installation.; hence, the plane will have been grounded for less than two weeks.

          Ron,

Don't despair yet ... Call Airframes -- I've had problems before with getting the wrong tracking number and then things arrived on schedule.

            Re: My struts

I called Airframes about my struts.
            Like I said "nice people"
They said that "Mike at Yakima" was "their guy" and that he was checking some spec's and that my struts would be on their way today.
Projected date of arrival Nov. 29.
I'll talk to N96995 tomorrow night when we are reminisce about the old days when we dropped the pumpkins on the square at Lima, Ohio and when we snuck into Canton Akron airport by flying between the banks of the river right through the center of town. Our failed attempt to light the cockpit with a bottle of lightning bugs. Oh.. for the old days or maybe I'm remembering them wrong.

Swing the prop and step back.

The reason we fly.......we won't go "postal".
