Mike, will my jury struts straps work with your struts.
Can you give us the material the struts are made from and rough shipping cost.
Thanks again for jumping in on the board and keeping us informed on this situation.
Well, I don't know if the jury strut straps will fit. There has been about 3 or 4 original "factory" shapes. I worked here when Dorthy Ferris was still making the airplane and I can remember shipping her at least two different shapes. So, I can't say for sure. We are advising customers to be prepared to make some as that is an item we don't have. This is one advantage that struts out of Brownsville will have on us is that they will come with jury strut clamps.

In another posting in recent days I stated that our struts are mild steel, but we have an Alternate Means of Compliance -AMOC allowing for their use to be terminating action on the T-Craft.

Regarding shipping: Motor freight to most places in the country out of Denver is about $150.00. It will vary depending on the market being served. However, if you live near a major airport and by that I mean something big enough to handle jet traffic, not Beech 1900s, we have seen our struts go into these airports for $80 to $120 with $100 being the average. Again, this is going to vary depending on the market being served and these prices would be freight collect.

Well said , I hope Bill does not get high blood pressure over all this; WE now have three sources for replacement struts , ah good old American free enterprise.... hmmmm I did not have to replace mine, they passed

By the way , when we formed the PMA group under the Foundation banner to perhaps build struts, AT THAT time we looked into aluminum replacement struts; Doug Combs & Donna Loosey had a hand in this and I of course offered the already approved aluminum struts that were used on the Dauntless D-52 ; a motor glider built in the Feris factory , basically an F-21B with a 52 ft wingspan.

These struts were developed here in Alliance and tested for up to 2200 Gross, I flew the ship three times. I have the drawings. That group never really had the person that wanted to pony up the money for the project.

One point I would like to emphasize is that we were one of the strut tube suppliers to Taylorcraft in Alliance, OH and every foot that went out of here was mild steel.

Historically we have only had to make T-Craft struts in batchs of 10, 15, 20 at a time. Our work orders are now for 50 to 100 each and we are seeing some economy of scale and with that we can also do someting on price. As I have been trying to convey the last couple of days, we are sensitive to all of you aircraft owners when ADs or Service Bulletins come out even though there is plenty of banter to the contrary. However. we are doing what we can.

Our UA-A815 Front struts are now $499.00 each and our UA-A854 rear struts are $449.00 each.

          Well that stinks!

What about those of us that purchased these from you over last month or so?

We are paying about $800 more for the same parts!

What are you going to do for us?

          Rebates?

Well, between keeping track of the latest banter here and lording over my sales staff I have been collecting, organizing and calculating the differences between the customers who purchased their struts between 8/20 and 10/16. We will be handling this "rebate" situation for this limited number of customers with vouchers made out for the difference. These vouchers will have no expiration date, they can be used all at one or in chunks.

It is going to take me a couple of days to organize all of this on this end and how to monitor purchases on the accounting side, but the deal is in the works.

Ye of little faith. I haven't forgot you guys.

              mike.
I would like to thank you for stepping up to the plate with the drop in price for your struts. Now I think there is only two supplyers for struts that is Unavair and alaska airframes. I live here in alaska and already orderd from airframes but i am glad you guys are out there and are communicating on this forum. I dont remember the factory ever saying that they woul like to work with us and drop the price on anything. By the way i just had new cowlings built and put on the new metal nose bowl from Univair a little spendy but shure is nice...................

Now if the FAA would just pull the carpet out on the time between inspections so those with struts that pass the tests could keep them without undue expense and risk of damaging their wings with frequent removal.
Too bad they screwed it up the on the first pass. Fingers crossed here.

As you stated flyguy in the other thread, the AD will be the same as the SB.
Thank you Univar for stepping up to the plate.
Thank you to Airframes for helping us out.
Guys if you look at the math, remove struts, take to somewhere, $500-$600
If one strut fails I got $1000-$1200 invested and still have 3 struts which got to be done again in 4 years.
$2000 to replace them and be done forever.
So Harry's right, most will replace.
What he didn't count on was the competition.
If I could find someone to NDT for $250 maybe I'll chance they would past.
If one failed it's only $200 or so I would of lost.

Robbie: Not too far away from you, St. Louis, Quality Testing Service did mine. Their cost for the ultrsound was $150 for four struts and an extra $75 for xrays. They were great to work with and are an FAA approved repair station. Contact Scott or Steve, 314-770-0607.
