Re: a more modern wind generator??

    Tribe,
There is a wind driven unit called the "BPE-14 Turbo Alternator" made by Basic Aircraft Products in Evans, Ga. ph # 706/863-4474. Weight is 5# and it puts out 5-6 amps @ 85 mph. No battery required. They are STC's for the BC-12D as well as other aircraft vintage aircraft. I believe that they also have one with a landing light mounted to the front of it. Price was around $600.

Myself and a friend were considering mounting paint ball gun(s) to strafe ground targets on his ranch. I think the muzzle velocity is too low, though.

Re: a more modern wind generator??

I am glad someone finally mentioned the "basic aircraft products" unit. I bought and installed the fully stc'd unit on my 46 about two years ago. It performs exactly as advertised, completely trouble free, NO reduction in airspeed AT ALL. The kind fellow even painted it to match my color! included in the price. It powers my radio, intercom, gps, transponder, ipod, cellphone, and has never given me a hint of trouble. Do not waste time developing something that exists for a reasonable price.

Re: a more modern wind generator??

Having talked to the gentleman with the Basic Products Alternator it seemed like a good unit, however I was unable to find any FAA inspector to sign off on the wiring harness from the alternator to the radio, transponder, etc. I was told to use a DER (Designated Engineering Representative) to the tune of $2000.00.
The owner of the alternator company said that this had been a problem lately.
So much for added safety. (transponder/encoder, etc.)
I am now done with my rant but it still really ticks me off.

Again, now you know why all the advance in safety and technology are happening in the experimental market. Spaceship One ?
