Someone took a picture of me taking off from the seaplane base at Oshkosh I guess....I was surprised to see my plane on the cover of my current issue.

Hey Dano and other float experts.... looking at your cover shot got me to thinking (did you see the smoke?)

Float flying is reported and rumored to be hard on the airplane. Looking at the photo there is obviously no shock absorbing capacity between the floats and the fuselage... it's a rigid structure.

Is there some reason that a pair of arched composite spring gears (one forward, one aft) cannot be used to mount the floats, without all the cables, spreaders, etc?

Would seem to me that this would give some shock absorbing capability and be kinder to the airframe... not to mention less drag??? See attached sketch -
