  • Shipping Cowlings??????$$$$$

Went down to the shipping store today to send a cowling from MD to OK. It wasn't ok!! If they boxed it, they wanted $410. If I boxed it it was 'only' $210. These were the UPS rates. The other options were similar. I understand the bulk of something like this precludes other more lucrative 'heavier' packages in that space....buttttt? Anybody have an idea on how to get a better rate? Guess I could derivet the thing and make the package thinner. Not sure if the buyer would appreciate that though.

Yes UPS saw the opportunity to purchase MAIL BOXES ETC (and others I suppose) and in the process are really putting the screws to the public. The local one here was great as a mail boxes etc owned by an ex marine they were always a little pricy but NOW we have long lines and they are way way crazy with the prices. I understand not to be out done Fed Ex is getting into the store front stuff also weel see if competition brins pricing back to saner levels... I am a builder and paid enough for blue print copies the other day that I now feel like I own the copier they used!.

Sorry I do not know of a better way for you to ship (or package) BUT I AM LOOKING !!!!!!!!

Try FedEx ground...I've always had better luck with them...and if they damage something, they're WAY better to deal with than ups.

In the past, I have shipped stuff by Greyhound. It is cheaper than courier, but the recipient needs to pick the package up at the local bus station.

That's good stuff to know. Since I was unable to sell my project before deploying, I'm thinking of selling off some of the "extras", cowlings being one of them. If and when I decide to sell the new cowlings though, y'all will be the first to know....and looking at shipping prices....pickup wouldn't be a bad idea!

I've shipped some bigger stuff with DHL.....it was WAY cheaper than UPS or FedEx. You might give them a try.

I'd be interested in cowlings for sale.

Bingo!! Thanks Andy. Let's see UPS @ $210 or Greyhound @ ~$40...hmmmm what a hard decision And about a day and a half to get there. Talked with the station agent and she said "figure about a dollar a pound". Didn't seemed concerned about the cubic dimensions. She said that Greyhound is really doing well with all the E-bay derived shipping...Who'd a thunk it?
