  • Eddy Current/Ultrasound Inspection Shops

Anyone have any idea of where these tests can be done and approximate costs? I plan on replacing my struts as a terminating action to this AD but am concerned about the availability of approved parts. Since we only have three months do do this, we will possibly have a lot of grounded T-crafts awaiting struts.

If anyone has shop names or numbers I would be willing to make some calls and do some research and post my results for all to read.

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Brian,
Talk to the propeller shops...most of them are well qualified and set up to do the required inspection. They'll need a copy of the AD and SB to look at before they can give you much of an estimate. The shop I use (Northwest Propeller, in WA) is already looking into it.

        Re: Eddy Current/Ultrasound Inspection Shops

I have been in touch with an NDT shop in central TX. We are working on two things.
        1) alternate/better method of inspection than called out by the AD
        2) to coordinate a working fly-in in a few weeks to do several airplanes at once. The NDT shop owner says we can keep the costs down this way for folks in the region. We will have the facilities and equipment to do the inspections in my dad's hangar at Deer Pasture Airfield, San Antonio Sectional near Burnet & Lampasas. I am waiting on a reply for quote.

          Re: Eddy Current/Ultrasound Inspection Shops

I'm just not seeing justified replacement, unless you fail the NDT for struts. If they're good, wouldn't a couple hundred bucks every other year be alot cheaper than a $3500 replacement???? I had planned on replacing my struts when I go back together with mine this year, but now I think I'd rather have them inspected first and if not bad, they'll go back on and fly. If they are bad, I'm going to look really long and hard at building my own and just keep NDT'ing them....
