Re: Strut Airworthiness Directive (AD) (merged V)
Please you computer guru's explain to ME what I could have done better in posting the AWC sheet, I was in a hurry to get to SNF and posted late one night. WE, I , FORREST , was the first to get it. The Taylorcraft Factory web site had it too! I thought it was brought out at exactly the wrong time due to our being very busy up here trying to get south and inspect another ship at the same time. The FAA engineer was very cordial after I chewed him out a bit about the timing.
For the guys who have been calling me asking why they had no knowledge of this pending AD , I told a couple to get their head out of sand, join up and chime in...... apologies accepted , I am not the BAD guy.
There is poor maintenance out there in the field on many airplanes.....
Lets try to do better, I now see that a lot of you never go to the Taylorcraft Fly-In in Allaince for the past 35 years... ( this was the last one) , never go to SNF or Airventure or Blakesburg, etc...... This is YOUR organization, Bob, Rob, Bill and others keep it going.... I am here for advice and to do the mission of the Foundation.

Nahhh, we've all gotten a bit ruffled by all this, and we've all fired a shot or two across the bow when we might have waited another minute. Step forward, Chris, not back
but I still offer my assistance to Mr. Byrle in the Group Project.
Gladly accepted, assuming the entire group does indeed step up to the plate and do it together
It also looks like I'll be getting myself a new set of struts.
May not be necessary. Wait until the dust settles and the final rules are written.
If your struts are bad, replace them... if your struts are good re-use them.
Hey, I like the way that sounds... maybe we can come up with a rallying cry in the best Johnnie Cochran tradition -
If ai ain't cracked... Put it Back!
If it don't show rust... What's the Fuss !
If it pass the X-ray, fly the Next day!
I ain't ready... to do no Eddy !
Don't get me started...

p.s. Ironically you have a post on it. As do others who seem surprized by the current event.
I found it. You're absoulutely right and I am duly chastened. I therefore withdraw all comments earlier about this being ram-rodded and not being notified. I humbly apologize to those concerned who might have been the brunt of my ire. I was wrong. I will step back and shut my mouth but I still offer my assistance to Mr. Byrle in the Group Project. It also looks like I'll be getting myself a new set of struts. Thanks, Dave for pointing me in the right direction.

When I looked at the link I didn't see an X by the type club. Did I miss it
or was someone trying to be sneaky on this. Too many knowledgable people
here to miss proper notification.

Re: Strut Airworthiness Directive (AD) (merged V)
I just got off the phone with Airframes, Inc. in Alaska. Last Friday (8/23/07) an FAA rep was in their facility inspecting a strut for Taylorcraft they had just completed. They expect to receive a PMA in about 30 days. (????) Anyway, he said their waiting list is getting longer and they are going to send out communication to Taylorcraft owners soon about their struts.

Well, don't know how I managed to miss that one... but there it is in black and white... the info was put out there for us on this forum. My apologies to all feathers that I ruffled.

Re: Strut Airworthiness Directive (AD) (merged V)
Big breaths help. The owner is responsible for the maintenance of his aircraft. The Tri-Pacer has about 64 AD's ( might be wrong) .....
The Owner has to start off with the old Malfunction & Defect Reports, then the Airworthiness Concern Sheets, then Service Letters, Service Bulletins, Airworthiness Directives, Service Manuals, good Type Club newsletters and advice ...... keep abreast of the latest somehow......
Not being critical just stating facts. The AD is the one the FAA sends out at their expense, yes I know OUR expense. The system is bad but can be fixed. CAll me if you want to know about other structural failures on the Taylorcraft. We will be compiling them for publication this week-end.
