  • Just in time for sumer

    Tribe;
    I just got back from 11 hours in my new little L2. We got to know each other quite well. I went from Denver to ABQ and back landing every 90 minutes or so... you know the fuel state in the 14 gallon L2.

    I flew with both windows open and found that my Bush Jacket which I bought for the extra sized pockets, and plenty of them, also works as an air conditioner. I rolled the sleeves past the elbow and stuck my elbows out the windows. First the left then the right. I got a stiff cool breeze all the way up the sleeve and down my back. While the well glassed L2 has lots of heat load. The thermic punishment was mitigated by this method. I flew routinely at 7500-8500 feet. Nice and cool -- and the new 71-50McCauley scoots at 105-110 MPH at 2350 rpm. Believe it or not I had tailwinds going both ways. I can only recall that happening once before in 30 years of flying. 2 way 5-10 knot tailwind component, cool air spreading down my back, and of course the spendid scenery of the Rocky Mountain West.

    Ed,

    When you get her trimmed out in smooth air take both hands, cup them and stick them barely out the windows and scoop it in. You can aim it right at your face, if you don't want to do the face-out-of-the-window thing. Can't do that in a car, and not easily in the side-by-side. Another L-2 benefit!!!
    Cheers,
    Marty

      I kept my elbows out the window -- first and mostly the left then the right -- for 480 miles. I was scooping air up the elbows all the way. It didn't seem to cost me anything in speed what so ever... it just added to the comfort. Comfort without a penalty? I can't get the from my car's air-conditioner. With regards; ED OBRIEN
