  • Flying the T-Craft to OSH

Let's see, I have a pup tent, sleeping bag, change of clothes, ditty bag, and a towel for the showers at the EAA Campground plus the nav stuff in a small flight bag. How have other members packed all their stuff into a BC12-D. I want to go to OSH and sleep under the wing--but it does not look like all my stuff will fit in the cabin and baggage compartment.

Heavy stuff in the seat, light stuff in the baggage. That doesn't seem like that much volume unless you have a really old type tent that is bulky and heavy. Biggest problem I've always had was clearing the right side control wheel.

Oops, sorry, I forgot that most people don't have a single cushion of the pilots side made up like I do. I guess if you have time you might make one. Gives a lot more space if you are just putting stuff on the canvas on the passenger side. That is, no back or bottom cushion on that side.

I usually sit on the tent and the ground cover. Lets me get my folding
chairs, sleeping bags, air mattress, and other necessities stuffed into the baggage compartment and under the feet of my grandson. I do have the
small baggage compartment. It has a shelf but I remove it and stack everything to the overhead behind us.

I think he means for you to find someone else who is going with a larger airplane and puts some of your stuff in there bird so you will have room to fly yours.

I thought about doing that. Have a friend who is driving and will be getting there about the same time that I wll. Before I do that, I want to see if I can stuff everything including me in that cockpit.

              Thanks

                Hi Frank,
I had the same problem years ago. I wrote to EAA and voila! I got a responce from Red 2 himself. They set up a temporary UPS depot there for the fly-in. You can ship your gear there to hold for your arrival and ship it home when you leave. Contact them for details.

Tent and the other stuff. Camping with a T-craft does not mean comfort.
and if you don't have room for it,You don't need it. It is sole searching to find out what you need.(;f
                    Wish I could go!

Re: Flying the T-Craft to OSH

Getting ready to go in early in the AM. Solved the space problem with backpacking gear--pricey. The only thing that concerns me is that I have a Sporty's hand held with non shielded ignition (static). This should not be a problem except for limited range. Need to have Atis first then monitor approach 15 mile before Ripon (holding ops at Green Lake). Hope the radio works well and has the range. Guess I can go as a Nordo if the radio does not have the range. Then I would have to land somewhere and make a phone call for nordo clearance. Any comments are welcomed.

                      Thanks,

                      Frank

Go to Fond du lac about 15 miles from fisk, call in 3 miles out to tower 120.4 and land. call Oshkosh and go in.
When at Ripon follow the tracks to fisk..... call them at 3 or 4 miles or just follow any other aircraft, they will talk to you by type of aircraft.
If you can hear them at 5 miles your good to go.
