  • N43255 is back in the air

    Hello everyone,

    If you remember a few months ago back in April I posted the sad story of N43255 going up on its nose during a prop start gone bad. After several months of searching for parts and dealing with the insurance, she is back in the air. We installed a newly overhauled A-65 removed from an L-2 for an 85HP engine upgrade. Thanks to Ed O'Brien (fellow T-craft owner and forum member) for all of his help and for what seems to be a great engine.

    I have a loner prop on her right now and am trying to make a decision on which prop to install. The loner is a metal Sensenich 74CK44.

    Then engine was removed and installed in less than two days by my AP brother-in-law and me. We had a few minor issues to deal with but were able to resolve them all with little trouble. The biggest issue was probably getting the shielded plugs to fit in the cowl. Tried the short REM37BY plugs and while the fit well on the rear cylnders, the front cylinders were a but tight. A search of the forum yielded great info and lead to us ordering a set of Ercoupe cups from Fresno Air Parts. They fit perfectly!!

    The new engine gets oil pressure immediately upon start and reads 30 constantly and the oil temp reads between 140-16 depending on ambient temp. I have about 5 tach hours on the engine and it is running great.

    Thanks to everyone on the forum for all of their advice and suggestions and to all of the local folks at SMQ for their help and loner tools.

    Wish we could have made it to Alliance but it was just too close and I did not feel like doing a long cross-country from NJ with an engine that was just installed and I do not know.

    Best Regards,
    Brian

    Brian;
    Thanks for buying the engine from me and being such a gentleman as we worked to resolve each of our issues. You're a double good guy. Make me the promise to fly this way one day and I'll promise the same for me too. I'll pick up my new 85HP L2 next weekend and bring it home. I can't wait!
    With regards;
    ED OBRIEN
