  • Army Wings and Wheels Event

    Hello all,

The Army Wings and Wheels Event is just two weeks away. Please join us for a fun and interesting weekend. Visit the website www.armywingsandwheels.com for further information or e-mail Tom at [email protected] with any questions. I'll have my L-2B there and I hope others can make it. This is not just for Liaison aircraft, anyone is invited. I know a few of you are up that way and I hope to see you!
    Cheers,
    Marty

I'd like to compliment you on that picture next to your "Flybikefarm" thing. Nice light, great composition. A little work of art.

I plan on riding my KLR650 down from Lake Mills. Is there a chance of getting a hop in an L2 from anyone on the forum? Mike C.

          Mike,

If weather cooperates I will be there, you are more than welcome to look me up while I am there. At the last liaison event at Wright-Patterson there were only two of us, my L-2B and an L-2M. Over half of the planes were L-19's. I hope some more L-2's show up to this event, though.

          George,

The event day is Saturday, Friday and Sunday are basically travel days.
          Cheers,
          Marty

Thanks Mike. It was a good weekend. We should go fly "Old Blue" one of these days since we're not that far away from each other. Let me know when you're available if you're interested.

Marty, I have a good "Nose Art" photo of your L2 from Saturday on my home PC. When I get back from my current work travel later this week I'll post it here. Nice L2!!

Re: Army Wings and Wheels Event

                    Hey guys!

The weather looked a little iffy at the start, but it turned out nice. It is always great to see the people behind the computers!!! I wish we could do it more often. I was able to give Dr. Weldon Taylor a flight in my L-2, he is a Tuskegee Airman who flew liaison aircraft in the Pacific. What a storyteller, he put on about two and one half hours worth of storys. I am really glad some of you were able to make it to visit. Unfortunately, there was only one other L-2, an 'M' model that dropped in for only a short period of time and then he was gone. I wanted to take a closer look at it but did not get a chance. Anyway, hopefully this will be an annual event and more of you can visit. By the way, this airport is unbelievable. I was able to visit with some of the residents Saturday evening. One person built a cupola on top of his hangar. While we were up there a beautifully restored Taylorcraft BC-12D and a J-3 were cruising around the pattern right before sunset. I could get used to living with my airplane with these surroundings! If you ever get a chance to visit Poplar Grove make sure to drop by the Wings and Wheels Museum. It is not an overly large place, but it is quaint. Just to look at the old hangars and houses there is worth the trip. Thanks again for looking me up while I was there.
                    Cheers,
                    Marty

Very nice, Mike. I'm glad you have the ability to post pictures. I'm lucky just to get them taken and downloaded to the computer! Thanks again for you and the guys showing up. Hopefully if there is another event next year, we can get a few more to Poplar Grove.
                        Cheers,

If I remember correctly, she was a sister of one of the local L-4 pilots.
