Well I was doing a little scud running through the Alaska Range and I noticed that my engine had a little sputter. I started the basics (carb heat, check the primer, mixture, fuel vavle) When I got to the mag check I found that the left mag had a drop of 500 rpm @2500. Well I made it to my destination and started my trouble shooting. I checked to make sure that the plug wires were still attached (non shielded and M-41E's) and then I started to pull the plug wires from the Bendix SF4 mags. Well come to find out one of my new (as of last year) cigaretts would not come out of the mag. I wound up pulling the mag cover and pushing it out from the bottom. when I got it out, the brass end on the wire was Severly corroded and the Cigarette had got water in during the winter and had split out. The corrosion from the wire seeped through the crack causing that plug to short out. I wound up getting the problem fixed and flying it home this morning but Wow what a headache....Well I think that I will make sure that the cowling stays on during the winter next year to keep water from causing more problems. Does anyone know how the Valdez fly in was? Tim
