Re: How Do You Remove Bugs

I asked my hanger neighbor who has an award-winning 1928 Travel Air how he keeps his airplane so pretty, he told me he has never washed the airplane but uses a product called Protect All which is available in an aerosol can from Aircraft Spruce and many other outlets. He gave me a can and I really like it!
You spray it on thinly and wipe off the dust and bugs then let it dry for
a few seconds. Then wipe again with a different towel and it leaves a beautiful carnuba wax shine. It is really easy to use and leaves the airplane looking great.

        You hit bugs?

Actually if you wipe the leading edge and struts before flight with Pledge when you land you can wipe them off again with Pledge and very little effort.

Just remember the bush pilot theory: insect guts harden at the rate of 12x the duration of the flight. Wipe quick. Wipe often.

One more thing that will help- let the plane sit outside overnight- the early morning dew really softens them up and they usually come off with a plain rag.

            Hi Richard,
The Protect All MSDS shows ingredients of Naphtha and Cranuba Wax.

I used soapy water and a cotton towel on the windshield. Paper towels scratch over a period of time. It took a little bit of time... time well spent.

For the leading edge of the wings, etc I used soapy water and an old pair of women's stockings. Took them suckers right off.
