  • Crankshaft A-65-8

    Hi All,

Just a follow-up thread to my prop strike thread to keep the discussions separate...

I have a spare engine in my basement that I was preparing to overhaul and may step this project up while the insurance and the airport FBO are working this incident out. I think I will need a crankshaft because my recollection is that is measured under limits when we looked at it.

    1. Does anyone know if the crankshaft can be repaired or if it is a big paperweight if it measures under limits?

    2. If I need one, does anyone have a good crankshaft they can part with or know of a shop or someone that my have one.

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Re: Crankshaft A-65-8

Aircraft Specialty Services in Oklahoma has an STC to turn a crank for an A-65 to -0.020". They have the bearings that go with it. Its about $1000 all told for the parts. You case would need to be notched to hold the thrust bearings that go wtih it - that's another $100 from another shop. ASS does good work. Bob
