NPRM/sport pilot speak

Hello all.

With all the information regarding the new sport pilot ruling, has anyone heard of the FAA producing examiners ready to do check rides for the sport pilot rule? Anyone know the current status of this new class of airmen? I am going into my second year after the written, and it would be great to fly my bird for a check ride, then take my time to do the VOR and night flying, that I will not do in my tcraft anyway, at a later date and less cost. Any insight from Oskosh and EAA/AOPA would be great. But, any FAA examiners willing to speak on this matter is what I am really looking for. (in a perfect world)

Thanks Craig. I had already checked with that homepage, but did not find what I was looking for. My big thanks to EAA for this reply from Joe Norris regarding the same questions that started this thread. He writes via email..................

Hello Dan,

Don't count on the sport pilot regulations to be in effect any sooner than mid-summer. We don't expect the rule to leave the Office of Management and Budget until sometime in April, which means that it won't be published in the federal register until late April at the soonest. This would put the effective date sometime in July or August, at the earliest.

Receration Pilot's Lic.

Dan don't forget you can also do the Rec Lic. much easier and only requires 30 hours, no cross country and no control fields. Not a bad way to go with the Taylorcrafts.
