    Re: Help Needed

    Richard,
Who's your IA? There are a couple of guys here at Lenhardt that might be better for you. Mark has the shop here on the field and works on lots of older airplanes......maybe worth a try.

You're in the NWAAC aren't you? Are they still working on Wally's old TCraft? I checked the websaite the other day and it hasn't been updated in this century.

      Re: Help Needed

All these are repeats, I will have a whole section on this in the NEW Foundation newsletter alter this Month.
Garry seems to be very knowledable and has stated the EXACT way things need to be done. Owners hould not guess, find an A&P , IA that keeps up on proper presentation to the FAA and have HIM work with the PMI. YES, NOW, the 337 can go direct to Oak City if it is APPROVED in block 7 by the proper person. I still need to keep the local FSDO in the loop. I just came from my IA renewal and we discussed a lot of this NEW stuff. By the way IA's are now renewed for two years. WE are still working on two year "Annuals" ..... more soon got to plow snow.

        Re: Help Needed

The FAA has issued an advisory circular, "AC 43-210 Standardized Procedures For Requesting Field Approval of Data, Major Alterations, and Repairs." This AC explains in detail how to request a field approval. To someone who has never been through the process it appears to be an almost impossible task, but with the proper data and an organized approach a field approval can usually be obtained if the alteration or repair is not beyond the scope of a field approval. In my experience, anything other than a very simple repair or alteration will require your local FAA airworthiness inspector to involve an FAA Aircraft Certification Office engineer, or possibly require you to use the services of a DER (designated engineering representative).
The above Advisory Circular along with FAA Order 8300.10, vol 2 chapter 1 (both available on the FAA website, www.faa.gov) make good reference material for all the questions that are asked about alterations, repairs, and field approvals.

          Re: Help Needed

Gary is RIGHT! AC43.210 spells it out. It is all starting to make sense now. Hopefully I can submit my data package this week and keep my fingers crossed for a few days.

I just hope they don't tell me to go hire a DER.
