Maule Tailwheels

I'm thinking of replacing my Maule tailwheel with a new Maule. I currently have a SFS-P8A. Have been looking at a Tundra SFS-P8B or a SFSA solid wheel. Has anyone had any experience with these two wheels? Will be mainly used on grass strip with some asphalt use. Is the Tundra worth the extra cost?

I like my Tundra. It's built much better than the smaller Maule tailwheels. I run 8.50's and spend a LOT of time off airport.

I do not like 8" tailwheels and 6.00 main tires. With the small main tires I prefer a small tailwheel. The Lang is my favorite, then the Scott 2000, then the Maule. The Lang and Scott have a much better tire than the Maule. I Have flown both Cubs and Taylorcrafts off airport with the 6" solid Maule tailwheel with out any problems, but prefer the Tundra for most of my flying.

Thanks jgerard. I have 6.00 mains. I looked at Lang and price is $549. That is why I looked at Maule. I was told the Scott 2000 wasn't available anymore but I'm not sure if that's so. Sounds like I might be better off with a Lang even at higher price.

I just installed the Maule Tail wheel you are thinking of and flew for the first time last weekend. T-Rex has 6.00 mains, but what I really liked about the larger tail wheel was the improved visibility in the taxi over the smaller tail wheel. I'm only 5'8" tall and do not use any kind of a cusion, it really was a noticeable difference.

The more input I can get before I buy the easier it will be to do it right the first time. I'm new to tailwheels and this site is really helping.
