I know we have had quite a few posts about strange weather lately, but winter has arrived in Northern Ontario . . . and there is nothing like good old hockey and a rink on the lake to keep the kids from Nintendo, Play Stations, TV, MP3's, and MSN! I just took these pictures a few minutes ago, it is minus 16 Celcius (about 3 degrees Farenheight), the kids have been out for two hours, and I just asked my son when he was coming in. His reply was "Never".

I'm just going outside again to try to flood my 25 X 90 ft rink . Hard to
believe that it isn't cold enough in Newfoundland hey ? We had heavy rain last night again and it ruined most of my work. The long range is looking bad again as we are supposed to get to plus 5 C again in a week. With nighttime
temps only getting to -5C it's hard to get good ice down.
Anyway off I go................................................ ........again!!

Re: Good Clean Canadian Fun
Ya, I know. A rink is one of those things. Five hours of work for every hour of play. But it is worth every bit of the effort once you see the kids out on the ice. My son spent the whole afternoon out there again today! We've got pretty good conditions right now. Big high pressure, clear and cold, not too much snow. I bought myself a new gas pump to flood this year but so far haven't had to use it.Grant S. Bailey

I'm still not able to skate on it. The weather is just not cooperating .
I assume you are flying floats and have a 0-200 given you own a F19 and
your on a lake. If yes I wouldn't mind comparing notes rearding performance
and yaw stability.

Re: Good Clean Canadian Fun
High Time Cub - Nice looking Fleet Canuck. Looks like this plane is in the Canadian Owner Maintenance category by the looks of the X on the registration. Where was that picture taken?
Robert - I own an original 1951 Model 19 which I have been working on for four years now. Progress on my project can be viewed at the following link:
My intention is to put it on floats if I am satisfied with the performance on wheels. I have put a C-90-12F in it and have the float fittings welded in place. I hope to be able to post pictures of it sitting on the lake in front of our house someday!!Grant S. Bailey

Mine is on the short mount A65 version and is doing just fine after 200 hrs
of float operation. I had to dish the firewall to clear the mags and I also used
the B&C light weight alternator and starter. If I had my time back I probably
would have gone for the O-290D2 or O-320 and flaps .
Hey the project is looking great, looks like you'll be ready in the spring at least on wheels. I have never flown mine on wheels and have no desire to
do so. Float flying is safer around here just because there are so many lakes
to land on. I'll send a couple of pics if I can find your email address on this site.

Re: Good Clean Canadian Fun
Jim,
Seeing that you seem to have some past connection with Northern Ontario, I attach a portrait of a distant relative of mine (I believe Rex was my father's uncle) with his dog and his plane. What is more significant is this portrait is an original Karsh that is now in my hands (sorry for the poor quality, but I scanned it from inside a picture frame). For those not familiar with Yousuf Karsh, he was a master portraitist responsible for portriats of some of the world's most famous individuals. I attach another Karsh portrait for our friend Robert across the pond.
