  • Foundation website and IE7

Hi tribe, to all who are having problems with viewing the home page of the foundation website while using IE7: There are some issues that causes some websites to not display correctly in IE7. Microsoft is aware of these and has sent out some information and utilities programs to make IE7 emulate IE6. A few weeks ago I tried all of their fixes, but alas, no joy.

I had one of our IT guys at work look at the issue, and I believe he is on the right track. There is certain javascript contained on the home page that is causing IE 7 to not display. There is nothing you can do as an end user to fix this. The correction needs to be made by the webmaster.

To get around this issue, I have bookmarked the discussion forum, which opens up just fine with IE 7. If I want to go to the foundation home page, I use Mozzilla browser.

I hope this issue gets resolved soon, as many who may be searching for the Taylorcraft Foundation website via IE 7 will be unable to see it.

    David,
Thank you for getting us toward a solution. It has not been of much help for people to tell those of us who must use IE7 to use Mozilla!

out of curiosity why "must you" use IE7?

I use both IE6 and Mozilla (my company wont let us use IE7 yet and most of our company website resources wont work with Mozilla either). I use IE6 for work crap and I use mozilla for my stuff.

Well, the reason I must use IE7 is because I was too stubborn to switch! I also just wanted an explanation of the problem.

Run microsoft update and make sure you have all the patches that might effect IE7. I have tested on 3 seperate PCs with IE7 and they work ok, but they all are current on patches too.

Bob, did you get the PM I sent to you last week showing the specific code that is suspected of being the problem? Have you gone to the IE 7 support page and looked at the question concerning why websites will not display in IE7?

In talking with some of my IT guys, they commented if you have a beta version of IE7, it may be working OK for you. However, the version released with new computers, such as mine is, may not be playing nice with websites.

Maybe as the IE7 support page indicates, you need to contact Microsoft and let them take a look. I have everything updated on my computer, through automatic updates. The Taylorcraft Foundation home page is the only site out of dozens I have bookmarked that will not display.

Please do not take offense, I am not trying to give you a hard time.

ok, thanks for checking on the patches. Yes I have your Pm, and yes its probably an issue with the java script stuff and somethign MS did. The fix is not a simple one as it will require an almost complete rewrite of the site and java code to work around the issue. Still looking for a simpler fix.

Thanks for the info, no offense taken.

                Bob -

I too have the IE7 problem.

I took a quick peek - for what is the JS modules used? I tried using the Opera browser with JS turned off and the site seemed to function fine.

                Do you use CSS?

Hi Forrest, have not died yet, but they have sure tried to kill me! I was tied to the boilers in the Powerhouse from October 4 to Jan 2, 2007 during the strike. 12 to 16 hours per day, no days off. There were only 8 of us in supervision from the department keeping the plant running using office workers as laborers. I sure am glad my regular crew is back! But it is kind of bittersweet because the Powerhouse is scheduled to be shut down in the next month. 40 plus guys will lose jobs, including myself. I am hoping another department in Goodyear will pick me up, but I have not had any offers so far. But I will just keep hammering away!

The Crosley radio people invented the method of our repair, except Tucker and I did it in reverse; delete things until it starts working!
Ruth is off on a big project, so I had to try to remember this html crap again. You think the FARs are funky, this stuff is radioactive.

Frigging IE7. Another DOA klunker from Microsoft. Should start a pool for when the first security patches come out.

Now the rest of you, go pay your membership dues for 2007! $15 for the Foundation, and $15 for the TOC.
For those of you that have, Thank you for your support and endorsement of what we are doing for you.
