FPV (first person video) from today's flight

made a "hat cam" camera mount for my Canon A640 today and went to the airport to try it out. Work's nicely! Here's a 4 minute clip.

had about a 70° crosswind at 9kts. Slipped it in at the end and put her down on the left wheel. What fun!

I'd like to fabricate some strut and tail mounts for my video cameras and shoot some aerials over the desert and some rivers/mountains.

ok, but don't laugh! It does look odd. Thank God no one else was out flying today... they'd have thought I lost my marbles.






I threw it together in about 5 minutes this afternoon. I need to make some adjustments to level it out a bit more but it works well as long as you keep the hat adjusted a little tight.

ok, I laughed! BUT, I thought it was ingenious!!!! I have been trying to figure out how to hook my kodak Z7590 up to do something similiar. I was really curious as to how you put a camera on your head and still had headroom. Very clever!!

I was going to ask you to do some spins and maybe a loop, but you hat may come off...

nuthin a velcro chin strap wouldn't fix..... but I'm not planing to spin this bird until after the wing rebuild in a couple years. Original spars on this one.... they look good but don't want to tempt the spin gremlins.

The camera is a Canon A640. an awesome camera! I use it on my remotely piloted helicopters for aerial imaging. 10 megapixels and many manual adjustments. Plus the ability to use wide, tele, macro lenses on the bayonet adapter. I was running a .55X wide converter for todays video.

I was able to get hold of a used Sony handycam and I am just trying it out now.(;f
Have anyone used a remote mike for sound input on one of them?
I would like to use the my mike on the head set for comments during filming.
It has a remote mike input but the mike is extra.
The plane is down for the annual so I had find something to tinker with and get ready for the summer!
Helmet cam? Maybe, need a old bike helmet with mike holder and speakers.
Anyone with a used headset or speakers for sale?
Can I use ear phone from kids mp players on the radio? Do we need 8 ohm speakers in the aviation systems?

Len, If you have an intercom, you should be able to take the co-pilot headphone output to the camcorder audio input (probably need an mini-jack adapter from Radio Shack). I think I'll get my SO a nice little digital camcorder for our 20th anniversity this spring to try it.

Yup! That was the Superstitions.

you should be able to take the co-pilot headphone output to the camcorder audio input

I believe there would be an impedance mismatch, so directly connecting would probably not work without having distortion. But an attenuator inline would make it possible

I needed that video! N44057 has been down for a while for annual and the hangar has been a little cold to work in, not to mention the miserable rain.

I am inspired to work up my own hat cam.
