    Hi all,

I purchased a BC-12D last weekend. Really nice plane and it was a real thrill getting back into the air after a 14 year drought. Anyway for as well as this plane has been restored and maintained by the past owner I had no flight manual or opeator's handbook to work from. Luckily my instructor has many hours in type so he was quite comfortable. As for me, I want a POH or some form of flight manual. Looking on Essco I see a BC-12D flight manual and a maintenance manual. Are these the two I need for operation and maintenance (I am an A&P also)?

I also noticed several A-65 maintenance manuals on Essco. Any comments on which one or where I need to go to get the best data on the A-65 innards?

    Re: New Owner

Congratulations on the new Taylorcraft Tim. And welcome to the "tribe".

The Essco books are good. There isn't any "real" POH such as you would find for a newer aircraft. Once you know the indicated stall speed and best rate of climb speed on your Tcraft, you can pretty well aviate safely. When I take up uninitiated flyers I find the two biggest "gotchas" are the lack of visibility to the sides and the very slight amount of warning before the stall break.

For the A-65 the engine, the overhaul manual is available very inexpensively from Fresno Aviation (Page 3 of any Trade-A-Plane). You can do a complete rebuild from that. Since you are already an A&P perhaps you already own publications from Sacramento Sky Ranch - a great source of knowledge and troubleshooting info.

        Tim,

The Essco Manuals are pretty good. The Maint manual has a good part on rigging.

Keep in mind that if you don't have the required placards on your panel, the poh becomes mandatory because it has the same info. Also don't forget the W&B info. I keep my POH between the seat cushion and sling. It doesn't get much use there, but it is legal and I don't have to have placards pasted all over my panel.

        Congrats!

            Re: New Owner

Essco is the source for every original manual that I had here in Alliance, Oh on the Taylorcrafts back about 20 years ago. All Models too!
Ernie Stadvec started all this outside Akron, O. God Bless "Capt" Ernie ; he once owned the most Beech 18's in the US to my knowledge.
The "service manual" at Univair is a good one too. The others are all copies; THEN we have the F-19 OR F-21 Parts Manuals here in Alliance at Barber Aircraft. Order through the Foundation OR direct to me [email protected] .
These are reprints of the Feris era parts listings.( lots of diagrams) Either is $10.00 plus $4.50 S&H. I just got 10 of each printed again.
the Taylorcraft Foundation new Newsletter will ahve a lot of this stuff available the end of February. THIS NEW newsletter will be available on this forumn and the web site. Hard copy by request only. Many helpful items on restoration will be in this one stop. PLEASE check the faq sections of the web site too!!
