help identify this tailwheel please

It's a Scott but I don't know the model number. The data plate shows nothing. We removed it from our Tcraft last week, bead blasted it and cleaned the bearings. It's in great shape and we'd like to sell it but need to know what model it is.

Also... anyone know why the fork is golden colored? What alloy is it??

Looks like a Scott 3-24B. Basically the same as the 2000 series.

isn't the 3-24/2000 full swivel with a one sided fork? That's what my Aircraft Spruce book shows. This one I have has dual forks and is not full swivel.

Get a magnifier, and look at the brass tag. I had one like it but can't remember what it was, I thought a 2000. Someone may have had the fork lightly yellow zinc plated.

Hi DJ,

That is a Scott 3000 tailwheel (early model numbers vary). They are steerable but non-swivelling. Good solid tailwheels. The big drawback is that the airplane cannot be pushed backwards unless the tailwheel is lifted off the ground.

One note: the axle bolt is supposed to be a special purpose drilled bolt with a zerk fitting for greasing the wheel bearings. Also, many (most?) of those tailwheels had a pressed steel two piece hub rather than the later cast hub of the steerable and full swivelling Scott 3-24B.

The Scott 3000 tailwheels seem to sell sell in the $100-200 range on eBay.

as for the drilled axle bolt... not sure on my model because the hub (on the opposite side of the pics) has a pressed in zerk fitting which would facilitate greasing of the axle & bearings.

D'oh! What was I thinking? Maybe I should look at the pictures before I answer. It is a 3000, not a 3-24B. Although it does look kinda like 3-24B if you squint and cough as you view the picture.
