  • WARNING: Internet Access -Explorer

    Hi All
On my other computer, I just updated to Internet Explorer 7 and am now unable to pull up the Taylorcraft Foundation website. Has anyone else had this problem? At my workplace we have had the same problem with one of the sites that we frequently use and their IT people say it is due to some software incompatabilities with the new internet explorer version, and is happening with some other sites also.
Forrest, has anyone else had a problem yet? I'm not great with computers, so it may be some problem that I have. Just thought I'd make everyone else aware before they automatically updated(like I did).

    Re: WARNING: Internet Access -Explorer

I updated to Internet Explorer 7 and haven't had any problems with the Forum, however I get an error each time I close Explorer 7 which is kind of a pain. Otherwise it has a few handy new features with the ability to have several websites open at a time.

My wife upgraded our computer(I'm not a computer friendly person but I get by)and ever since then I can't type in the taylorcraft home page. I can only enter the chat and photo forums from a direct desktop link or threw an email sent to me notifying me of new messages in the forum.

Glad it isn't just me. I wonder if anyone has a solution to get to the home page easily? I tend to check the discussion forum several times a day when it is convient. This is really making it a pain.

Mozilla Firefox here. Been using it since before it was known as Firefox and I'll never go back to IE again.

              Re: WARNING: Internet Access -Explorer

Just did an XP media center install on a new computer and the first updates were to install explorer 7. Immediately had printer problems and some other issues. Went into add and remove programs and uninstalled the crap. By default the original iexplorer 6 returned. End of trouble. Not a fan of Microsoft updates, as I usually have more trouble after than any benifits it may have. It's the typical new version with 50 fixes and patches to make it work about as good as the old version. So far the best os I've had is win98 running iexplorer 5.5. for general use. Boot's fast , no problems, and shuts down fast. unlike XP.

                Re: WARNING: Internet Access -Explorer

We also updated to IE 7 and had nothing but problems we also uninstalled it and IE 6 returned as the default. We also use Firefox / Mozilla and it works great we don't get any trojans or a masty little devil called a bargan buddy comes in with IE 6. Very few unwanted cookies get thur Mozilla it loads faster etc.

Me too, installed the upgrade and used EI7 for about 20 seconds, lost all my favorites, EI7 was too slow for us. Then un-installed. EI6 was back after that and life is good again. Dave

Upgraded to IE7 without difficulty with the Taylorcraft site. However, one of the newspaper sites I like doesn't work well.

Well, just uninstalled mine. Default to IE6 and everything is working OK again. Glad my favorites are usable again.

                        Re: WARNING: Internet Access -Explorer

The Forum should work fine with both Ie7 and Firefox. Personally I use firefox.

If your are not already doing it, you might consider (!) setting a book mark for the forum. Simply bring up the forum main page, then in your browsers menu at the top click book mark to record the url.

Another option if you really love the forum, would be to make it your default home page in your browser. In firefox go to Tools, options, click the general tab and and enter in the forum url, or click "use current" if you are already on the forum home page.

Lastly there is RSS for those of you who know what it is.
RSS syndication allows you to view newly created threads in guest viewable forums without visiting the board.

You can read more about RSS at Wikipedia:

If you have an RSS capable browser on your system, you can load in the RSS address for the forum and then you will get notifications of new postings and you can click on it and it will take you to the forum via your web browser. Firefox supports RSS, I think they refere to it as a "live link"

                        The RSS address is: http://vb.taylorcraft.org/external.php?type=rss2
(NOTE: This is not a web URL, if you put this in your web browser you will be exposed to extream geekie-ness, your life may change in some unexpected way.) you would typically copy this address and then paste it into the subscription field in your RSS capable reader.

A note on cookies, the forum stores your login info on your PC in your browser in a cookie, thats why you dont have to login each time you visit the forum. Problem is the cookie can get cleared off your PC, either by you doing some maintenace or by the cookie expiring. When that happens you need to login in again, and you need to remember that tricky and cute password you picked when you signed up. Of course if you forget your password the forum software has a feature to help you get it changed so you can login, of course that relys on your email address in your profile being correct, and not some cute one time thing you got for free from yahoo...

So how about clicking on the user cp menu right now, and checking over your profile and updating it, expecially your email address. We dont sell or give away email addresses or email you spam stuff, we have enough to do already.

                        bob.

                            Re: WARNING: Internet Access -Explorer

                            Kevin;

At the top of the page in IE, there are a pair of left and right arrows, and to the right of that is a space to type in something. type in vb.taylorcraft.org and hit return.

After the forum main page comes up, click on the two stars at the top of the IE menu, that will record the forum URL as a book mark. The single star will list your book marks and you can click on the one you just saved to get to the forum, etc.

                            hope that helps.

                            bob.
