  • '41 BL questions

    Hi guys,
I have begun taking the BL apart and have stumbled across a couple of questions. I'm sure someone here will recognize some of them.

    1) the primer is a little unusual in that it is spring loaded foreward and you pull it back (against the spring) to prime. Is this an original or something someone added.

    2) On the lower instrument panel tube (the one that runs from door post to door post) there a two lugs welded on directly below the bushings for the control wheels. They are parallel with the tube itself. I thought they were for a control lock or something, but I guess you would only need that on one side. I'll try to post a picture of them.

    3) Is there anywhere I can get a set of drawings and an assembly manual (with rigging type information)

    4) the control wheels in the plane appear to have once been round, but someone cut tthe top and bottom off and made there own psedu post war yokes. Pretty neat, has anyone ever seen this?

    Thanks for the info

    David

The primer sounds like the original. The throttle plate tells you to pull and release if you have that plate. The lugs on the tube are correct also, I beleive they were for the optional stck control. All I have seen for rigging is the manual which is brief. The control wheels were round originally. If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

      David,

Did you just recently purchase this plane(project?) If so who did you buy it from ? Reason for asking is I sold a couple of project 1940 Bl s to a guy outside Atlanta and I am preety sure he re-sold em. You may PM me if you like.

              Re: '41 BL questions

Hi, I have been putting my 41 bl back together, I also have same primer. Have a spare engine in pieces, crank, pistons, rods, rebuilt heads, case, cam, followers all. I have the marvell ma2 carb on mine, sure wish there was a way to re jet it, we are at 4200 ft msl . A smaller jet would be nice at this altitude.
I have some literature and an origional o145 engine overhaul manual. If anything there is of help, let me know, Jack

Has anyone found pictures of their Taylorcraft on the Rodman Library web page? I did a search and found one.
