    Does anybody know of a good shop to have the old style Bendix Mags overhauled? I am talking about the SF4RN-8 and SF4LN-8 type?

    What about costs... What are cores worth? Overhaul cost?

    Terry,
    Savage Magnetos in Hayward California is highly thought of. They've been at it for over 50 years and are generally considered THE experts on old mags. This is the address I got on a quick google search.

      Thanks..
      I will give them a call. I believe they did some work for my dad one time on a 6-cylinder radial magneto.

      Do you know if you can have shielded ignition harness with the SF4 mags?

        Re: SF4 Bendix Magnetos

        Hi Terry,

        Savage Magneto does a superb job on these mags. I just had an SF4 overhauled by Al last March (photo attached). He said it was pretty much all new as the original I sent him was on it's last legs. Not cheap at about $700 for the overhaul but it sure is nice to know the mag is as good as new. It's the only mag I have on the A-40!

        Bendix did have a version of this mag that was shielded, so I imagine there must have been a shielded harness as well. Al at Savage will be able to tell you for sure.

          Hi All,
          After an endorsement from Tom Baker, I sent my old "lunchbox" Bendix mags for my O-145 to Savage. Al Marcucci overhauled and converted them to shielded type. He also made up a shielded harness to go with them. I am very pleased with the results and feel it was worth every penny. Starting price for the job is $350 plus parts per mag. I was able to save some money by sending along an extra pair of parts mags and coils. I have seen his name mentioned in other type clubs, his reputation preceeds him. The current info on him is;

              Terry,
              Doc got his SF-4s overhauled at Navajo Accessories in San Antonio. I don't know what they charged him.

              I just has a Stromburg carb overhauled by these same folks. Delrin needle installed, new seat, yellow tagged -- $455. I think Johnny, Bobby, and Alvin have been doing this kind of work since Curtis Lemay was a cadet at Randolph Field

              If L-2 Gary can fix you up for free that would be awesome. Otherwise maybe you can fly down to SA and I'll drive you over to Navajo. I work by International Airport.

                Re: SF4 Bendix Magnetos

                Does anybody have a good IMPULSE Bendix or Slick (4330 series WITH drive Gear) that they wish to sell? For an A-65 of course. As an alternative does anyone have a drive gear that fits the above mentioned Slick and A-65 that they will sell?
