AD 78-20-11 is the AD that requires replacing original aileron sprocket stop pins with clevis pins. Can this be done by pulling out the old pins and installing the clevis pins, or is a factory new sprocket required? Clevis pins need cotter pins, and I wonder if the cotten pins could obstruct or get in the way of the aileron chain.

Two TCrafts at our field still have the old pins even though the AD's are signed off! Go figure.

We made several of those at the factory. The clevis pins were "bucked" like a rivet which is very tough to do. We would only succeed with 4 out of every 5 we tried.
Instead of forming a shop head they would bend over. I may have one or two old sprockets with the pins installed, let me check, and get back with you.

Thanks Winston. We could use both of them but would be very grateful for one.

Re read the AD there was only a very few installations that required ANY action it had to do with a few "soft" pins that got installed at the factory in Alliance into a couple F-19's, and a very few factory sprockets that got out into the field, I will research tomorrow, ALL bad ones were reworked at the facotory in Alliance and to my knowlege ALL out in the field were found. Clevis pin was the fix for the bad ones that had soft pins....
This was found during float installation testing on the F-19's when the test pilot rolled in full deflection to check the roll rates, the ailerons locked in over the soft pin with full deflection, bet it made him sit up and take notice.... will check furthur tomorrow or Thurs at the airport. Home right now typing and doing Kelli-Belles toe nailes & ears...

Thanks for looking Winston. Gary (Lost in Space) who's very experienced and Forrest (he knows the why and the what of everything) have said (in effect) don't sweat it. So I won't.

Forrest, Do you have any sprockets with the clevis pins installed? Even if you don't, I would like one. I'll get in touch next week. Do you have any of the universals that fit on the end of the control tube?
