  • In need of a seat sling

Can anyone tell me where I can get a seat sling? Mine ripped out today. Can I make one using the old one as a pattern? Would like to make it out of a little stronger material if I could.

The last sling I got was from Aircraft Spruce. Worked out fine.

Does your wife have a sewing machine? I would duplicate the original out of a synthetic (stronger & lighter) than original material. Use upholstery thread. You can buy grommets at the fabric store. Tie it in with a good quality synthetic rope. Nothing wrong with "owner produced parts". Purists may speak up on fire retardent material. But I believe the original CAR 4 regulations do not requre it. And I am sure the old canvass in my airplane isn't fire resistant/retardent at all.

Very close to the route I am thinking about going. Would like to have it installed by Friday evening, but may not get there.

Take it to anyone who makes tents and awnings get it made of double 0 white cotton canvas with brass eye's. Thats what the factory did back then.
Even the most discriminating I.A. can't tell! Actually the upolstery isn't inclusive in the FAR's discribing owner mfg. parts.

Only the tent and awning people down here have been able to find the 14 oz canvas that the original blueprint called for. I could only find 10 or 12oz at the fabric stores.

I get them from Airtex Prducts, the upholstery company in PA. they have FAA/PMA parts.

              Look them up in Trade-A-Plane.

I have a sling from Airtex very nice and reasonably priced. It's a 18 oz.
vinyl coated nylon fabric , very strong and easy to clean too.

That sounds like a well made sling. How much did you pay for it?

I paid $85 for the seat sling alone and I also bought the baggage holder for another $22. Dave
