    Re: Dual Exhaust

    CHIME!!

As far as I can tell my T sounds good. The heater definitely takes the "chill" off the air when it's cold. Doesn't make the plane warm, but makes quite a difference! As far as carb heat, it drops about 100 rpm when used, which 50rpm is the best I have seen on other planes.....

I really like the fact that you don't have to mess with the engine to get them off and they are really easy to replace(as C150 exhause it very common!)

The bubbles never bothered me. Mostly because I didn't know any better when I got the plane.

      Re: Dual Exhaust

Wow, that is the great thing about this site. You can ask questions and get input from people who have already solved the same problem you are having.

I had just about given up on the Aeronca system and "N96337" tells me he has it on his plane. John have you had any problems with cooling since the Aeronca exhaust was installed? Can you still get the heat shrouds for the cabin heat and carb heat? Does it put out as much cabin heat as the original Taylorcraft system?

I really don't want to have to add the bubbles to put the C-150 exhaust on. I don't mind a little extra noise from a system without a muffler because I use Lightspeed headsets all the time.

If anyone has any pro's or con's about putting duals on a BC12D, please let me know.

          Re: Dual Exhaust

Pearson, I've never had any problems with cooling, and before I bought my plane, it was severely overgrossed on a regular basis. We're at about 3500 to 4000 feet in this area, and it flew with two "really big" guys in it all the time.... in fact the one was so big that the yoke couldn't be pulled back far enough to get a good stall, because it hit his belly.... and they never had any problem with cooling either.
As far as carb heat, I never saw any problems with that either... It's flown in summer and winter and usually gets around a 50 to 75 rpm drop. The only heat shroud is on the right hand stack and is plumbed so that you don't have cabin heat when you have the carb heat on. (I'm always sweating when landing so don't need any more heat then anyway... hahhaha)
It's got it's own sound for sure, but I always have hearing protection so it's never bothered me so far. By the way, it's a C85 engine. My only complaint is that the two stacks don't come out of the cowl at the same angle, but nobody notices unless it's pointed out...

Dan Gervae could you send me a private message? I would like to learn more about your Hanlon Wilson exhaust set up. Or you could write me at neat1s in care of yahoo.
