  • More from the North

Walked down by the plane at first light...a beautiful moment. A few days ago, I walked down to check on the plane...all within the space of one minute, a loon out on the lake gave that wild call unlike any other...a splashing under the plane revealed four mergansers fishing for breakfast and I heard the swishing beat of wings coming through the mist...looked up and saw a bald eagle flash overhead, not 75 feet above me. Just a special moment. Dick

    Re: More from the North

Nicely done Dick, you're killing me though!!! When my wife and I visited relatives from Anchorage a couple of years ago, I spent some quality time on the Kenai, and did a little King Salmon and Halibut fishing in the Cook Inlet (Ninilchik). We also chartered a flight out of Merrill field for some glacier site seeing. We need to get back up there. The few days we had available were packed, but we obviously only saw the tip of the "iceberg". Look forward to more pictures from all of you guys!

Mike, thanks for the comment...we certainly enjoy sharing the "Taylorcraft Moments" with the Tribe. I'm really thankful to have opportunity to witness the beauty of this place. It has a seemingly endless supply of sights to see...more than a lifetime's worth. Dick

June 2007 Alaska trip from the north west USA and Ontario.
Think about it and see if we can but something together.
Starting point, Alliance or enrute as we go.
        Maybe some driving some flying.

                  Dick,
I had the same experience near my cottage a couple of weeks ago on a mountain about 10 minutes from my cottage by plane of course . I was surrounded by Caribou , Moose, Geese, Bald Eagles. Walking for a mere 40 minutes or so I put nearly 50 Willow Partridge to wing. After my little walk I got out the old fishing rod only to catch my limit of trout ( 10lbs + one fish)
in a dozen casts of not less . Just one of those days...............magical !!

I know I have spoken to you in the past about float flying but cannot remember what floats you are using, your engine and aircraft performance
characteristics. Could you share this with me again as I am trying to resolve a few issues and possibly make some adjustments.

                    Re: More from the North

COUNT ME IN! Last year i rode my motorcycle through Central America from Savannah, Ga. I kept saying that when I got home I would fly the BC12 to Alaska!
If you guys want to put it togather, or want me to figure it out, lets do it! i would feel a lot better flying beside a fellow T-Craft.

PS i have been working on a winter trip from Savannah, Ga to Brazil and Argentina. lots of open land! and cheap.

I was out enjoying the last of the float flying season...ran across this bull moose about a mile from where I hunted. Where was he when the season was still on? Guess him to be a 50+ inch spread. Dick

Dick, you're really making me want floats so bad! I can't find a set of 1320's anywhere, even damaged ones, I wouldn't mind fixing some up.

All of the big moose come out of hiding after the season is over. Same thing happened to me this year. I either heard or saw about 3 bulls while I was hunting, but couldn't get a shot off at either opportunity. About a week and a half ago I flew out there and found all 3 of them. The biggest one had about 9 cows with him. ... maybe next year

Here's a few from Sunday with my girlfriend Molly. Two different spots, Beluga Lake, then a ridge near the blowhole of Mt. Spur.
