Like they say on the radio... The is a Public Service Announcement.
Hey all you Taylorcraft Forum members in New Mexico or West Texas!
My nephew is a big rig truck driver, who has been here and seen my Taylorcraft. He is somewhat familiar with airplanes, and although not a T-craft expert he does know what they look ilke from spending several hours looking at mine.
He called me today from the road to say he thinks he saw three fairly complete Taylorcraft airframes by the side of the road in Tucumcari, NM. He was not able to puill over and get close to them, but he was reasonably sure they were Taylorcrafts or darn close to Taylorcrafts.
He said it was in the vicinity of Mile Marker 338, on the East side of the town of Tucumcari, and they were on a service road just south of Interstate 40. There was a highway exit within a mile or two of where he saw the airplanes. There was no for sale sign, and he had no idea if the airplanes were for sale, but it looked like they had been there for some time. They were definitely not in flying condition, but he said they appeared to be assembled and more or less complete.
I told him to stop and take a look next time he was through there, but I also want to put out the word immediately in case someone is in the position to take a look at the airplanes. I cannot advise someone to drive a long way on just this report, because it is third hand and there was no indication they were for sale. If someone is near there, or wants to fly over and see if there are Taylorcrafts parked there, that's up to you. This is just an open announcement, hoping to help someone put a few more Taylorcrafts in the air for everyone's benefit.
Maybe the new "Google Earth" program can allow someone to zoom in close enough to see.
