    Marc,

Last month at OSH, I stopped by the Cleveland Brake booth and talked to the people there. As I understand it, there is not an STC for the BC12-D. The STCs for Taylorcrafts are for the F-19 and F-21.

This doesn't answer your question, Marc, but why do you need Clevelands? You might search "Cleveland Brakes" because there have been several threads about them. Shinns in good shape are more than adequate/

            Re: cleveland brakes

The F19 is a cable operated drum brake. The axles should be 1.5" and I think what Randy wants you to find is some hydraulic Cleveland wheels and brakes. Possibly from a C-150 or C172. There are over a dozen 6" Cleveland wheel/brake combos out there. You might ask him for a part# and start calling a few of the salvage yards in trade-a-plane. The Shinn brakes on N43643 work REALY good so I might suggest trying them out first before spending $500+ dollars on new wheels and brakes.

                Re: cleveland brakes

I also have an F19 and have hated those Cleveland mechanical brakes since the day I first flew the plane. Does anyone have information on how to get a STC for a conversion to hydraulic toe brakes? Throughout the years I have bird doged a few dead ends.

                Who do I contact?

Is there a parts list, and drawings?

                Thanks SkyHigh

                  Re: cleveland brakes

The F-21, A, B and newer will bolt into the F-19, check with he factory.
WE have drawings here IF you can find parts, maybe a wrecked one? I do warn you that the left foot will suffer if you have size 11 or bigger, it kind of gets caught under the H column in a hard right turn.
Why do you want to switch, poor braking? or Toe brakes desirable?

                    Re: cleveland brakes

                    Brakes:

I live in a windy climate and it is difficult to taxi without strong and responsive brakes. Additionally I have 8.50 tires on my bird and I suspect that the added arm on the increased tire diameter is greater than what the brakes were designed for.

In order to get around the airport I have to resort to coming to a full stop and using power to push the tail against the wind to make a turn. Often the results are rock chips in the prop. Another problem is that the cables like to get hung up on aggressive braking turns and that can be embarrassing and dangerous.

My dream was to get a kit from the factory but now that is uncertain. If I could get reliable brakes then perhaps I would keep the plane and recover it.

Are parts still available for Shinn Brakes? Does anyone know of a Shinn Brake assembly that might be for sale?
