  • Canton OH to Hagerstown MD

Planning a flight for next week to see the new grandbaby, anybody got any advice for going around Pittsburgh? Better to go north or south of class B airspace? Thanks for any input.

Made the trip a few times( Alliance to Frederick). Will pull the charts out of the plane and help my memory with the details. Usually sneak under the Pittsburg wedding cake on the north side then S.E. course passes approx 7 miles south of Johnstown PA airport, straight line for Frederick. Hagerstown is approx 20 miles closer on the same line. (Course passes about 5 miles south of HAG airport). Biggest problem on route is that the tunnel thru the mountain isn't wide enough for a T-craft! The clouds like to sit just over the mountain ridges. Flying early or late will reduce time in turbulance. Don't go too far east of Hagerstown airport as the infamous P-40 Camp David Airspace is right there!! Bedford airport (HMZ) PA was a good fuel stop two years ago on the way to Alliance w/ 20 mph head winds.....More later. Howard

I think south is better but it's not bad either way, just pick the side that's less of a detour

South is bad if visibility goes down, I talked with Dave about all this stuff. I too like direct, but have become more chicken in my older age 63..

Well, due to the crappy weather the Butterfly stayed safe in the hanger while we drove the northern route via PA turnpike.

We made a visit to the National Air and Space Museum, Steven F-Udvar-Hazy Center over by Dulles International. Really neat, if you get a chance to go, it is well worth it. Free admission, parking is $12.00

Going to go to the Cleveland National Air Show this weekend, hopefully the weather will get better.
