  • 8.50x6 tubes

I was wondering if anyone knew of a source or perhaps had an 8.50x6 tube they would be willing to sell or part with? I've tried the usual outlets (Wag, Spruce, etc) with no luck. Seems to be a nationwide shortage of these size tubes.

Because of this unavailability, I heard that you can put an 8.00 tube in an 8.50 tire. Wondering if anyone has heard the same?

I know the 7X6 and 8X6 use the same tube, so I'm guessing it would work. A word of caution though.....I was flying my buddy's Quicksilver GT500 the other day and had a blow-out on landing. Apparently the previous owner/builder had put 6X6 tires on it, but did NOT change the tubes from the 5X6 tires that were originally on it. The tubes wiggled around in there until they were scuffed clear through.

      Re: 8.50x6 tubes

On the Super Cub site there was a recent discussion about this same topic. My recollection was that it is ok to use 8.00 x 6 tubes. I think someone even had something from the tire/tube manufacturer indicating it was fine.

I recently got a field approval for 8.00 x 6 tires on my Tcart. I have not installed them yet but plan to at next annual. I'm still trying to find them in 4 ply so I do not pay a big weight penalty.

Chief Aircraft lists them in their newest catalog and they're available at Desser Tires online.

Let us know what you find out. I'm interested in how much the tubes cost.....last time I checked they cost as much as the tire!!!

Here's what I've learned, the shortage was the result of Goodyear's only supplier of these and several other" high" latex type tube's going broke.
Sent the industry pack'in for the recipe and first effort's delayed by failed attempts at manufacturing them.Reports are that they, as we speak are arriving @ the larger distributors, his will be here shortly

Michelin also makes that tube......I'm pretty sure they're available at Desser.

I can see why they went belly up. Those tubes just don't seem to wear out! I have had to replace the tube in my Tailwheel. It blew on landing just one hop from the flyin in Alliance a few years ago. THAT was an interesting experience!!

I now carry a spare tube.............
