I have a 1946 BC12-D with a Continental A-65 engine. What can the Gilberti STC do for my max gross weight. If I made the Modifications to the airframe, could I raise the Max Gross to more than 1,200 pounds? Also, if I can raise my max gross without changing engines, how much would the new max gross weight be and how much would the STC cost?

The OLD Gilberti STC is now the Bob Harer STC , all information is on the web site.
The A-65 will only accommodate the 1200# do to a performance requirement. With the short mount C-85-8
( BC12D-85) (ATC 696) You can go to the 1280# very easily.
With the C-85-12F and long mount ( BC12D-4-85 ) you have the "equivalent" of the Model 19 ( ATC 1A9) and go to 1500#'s.
This last paragraph is basically the Harer STC.
Any increase in gross weight requires both a "structure" and a "performance" requirement....Taylorcraft Foundation, Inc

I'd like to search the site for all info pertaining to the 1500# gross mods. However, I can't quite figure out how to use the search function. If I put in Bob Harer STC, it tells me that STC isn't long enough (needs 4 characters) to do the search. But when I remove all the spaces it just says can't find. I'm sure its my lack of savy here. If someone could "Walk me through it" there are a lot of things I'd like to search.

A lot of us are working on the conversion while we restore our planes. If you are doing a complete restoration, it is the way to go in my opinion.
There are lots of them out there already converted too, such as Richard Boyer's N95791, which he flew to Alliance this last summer. Outwardly they look almost exactly the same...............
but inside you get all the benefits of a complete electrical system.....

How about a thread on who is currently restoring their T-Craft and updating it to a model 19 equivalent, or who has done theirs already and why and how is it better than their old B model.
I'll start off................
Jon Timlin, N96301, had since 1976, was in storage for 20 years, started restoration in earnest after Sept. 11th. Working on fuselage, and specifically right now the plan for the instrument panel and electrical system..........will be complete STC with side windows, big baggage compartment, C85-12 with O-200 crankshaft STC, strobes, landing and taxi lights, transponder, and VHF radio, and intercom. Hopefully will be ready for her 60th birthday in June of 2006!

85-4 conversion
Hey Tribe,
Just now putting the finishing touches on N39203. Started in July of 2003. Its been a long haul and has had some fustrations; however, I think it is going to be well worth the expense and time. "Mis Elaine" is not a show stopper but mechanically she is at the top of her class. I went with the o200 STC on my 85-12F overhaul and did some other things which should give me about 103-108 HP with a serious increase in torque. The biggest hassel was the windows/baggage compt. God, what pain in the butt to follow the Harer STC. Anyhoo, I am anxiously waiting for the cowling to be finished so that I can go fly. If I can help anyone or anyone has any questions, give me a shout.Best Regards
