  • Timothy Treadwell

    Hi all.
Just my opinion, but timothy treadwell was a F*&%$*NG idiot. Saw a presentation on tv today, and I was sick to me stomach. surprised he lived as long as he did...should have died in the back alley of LA or whereever he grew up in CA////keep the trash indoors...and out of ALASKA.

A dumb-a** who traded a drug addiction for a bear addiction. The bears killed and ate him and his girlfriend.

            Re: Timothy Treadwell

The sad part is how many people thought he WAS the expert he proclaimed himself to be. In the end, the grizzlies themselves had the final word on that.
Werner Herzog who did the film about him said he ignored the "overwhelming indifference of nature", instead adopting his own idea of a benign harmony. In short, he was an idiot who got himself, his girlfriend and two innocent bears killed. It's maddening to see a guy like that eulogized as some kind of saint.

              Re: Timothy Treadwell

It might be said that our work kills us all, however, more slowly. Timothy Treadwell is like a lot of recovering addicts. They think they've found a truth none of us have seen before. They think they can finally find purpose. Sometimes they think right and sometimes they think wrong. It used to be commonly referred to as the Howard Beale syndrom (named after the Peter Finch character in from the movie "Network"). I'm not sure theres a new cultural handle for the same phenomenon that is up to date. Maybe someone should nominate Timothy Treadwell for this syndrome monicker today. And, do watch-out for bears!

I watched a little of that show, had to switch the channel when one of the panel of dunderheads said that the bear who killed him harbored ill will against humans because he'd been "abused".

I heard recently that there was a bumper sticker in Alaska that said:

"Timothy Treadwell - the other white meat"

On Come ON! How could you guys up in Alaska miss out on this great opportunity... get together with a lawyer and file a class action lawsuit on behalf of the bears for defamation of character!

Expert witnesses called at the trial would be Yogi, Smokey, Boo Boo...

                    Re: Timothy Treadwell

Since I make a living as a writer and consutant for the news-media, here's a story. I once edited a reort about West Nile Virus that stated: "Caused by an alleged mosquito infestation." I asked the writer why use the word alleged. She stated that the local mosquito control district had become upset in an earlier story that she did, because... "mosquito infestation" indicated that they weren't properly doing their jobs. The outlets lawyer bought the argument. So it became "alleged" infestation as a matter of form. Two point here: (1) Lawyers are allegedly dumber than Timothy Treadwell. (2) If mosquitos have easily hurt feelings then bears likely do too.

                      Ed,
As a lawyer, I will take personal offense at your unkind remark. I've never been even allegedly, much less actually, eaten by a bear.

That being said, ownership of a Taylorcraft balances out most of the other defects and what not. I'm sure the Bard would make an exception for a Taylorcraft owner, if of course old Bill knew what a Taylorcraft was.

To Alan Thiel, whom I inadvertenly maligned... "take no offense from me, please. That posting was made by a militant faction of my body of which I have little control and therefore am not responsible for..."

To Treadwell's fame as bear food. Likely Mr. Treadwell will not become near as famous as the Donner Party, Donner Pass, Donner Lake, Donner Diner, Donner this and that. That said, I do not know if the Donner's were diners or dinner in their expedition.
