  • Those thin stop nuts for inner tube stems

I finally found some of those apparently rare thin stop nuts that thread onto the inner tube valve stems below the valve cap, to hold the stem in place as it pokes out through the wheel. They're an odd diameter and very fine thread.

Skybound of Doraville, GA, maker of Shinn brake parts, didn't have them...
the various aircraft supply catalog companies didn't have them...
tried a hardware store, an older hardware store...
    tried a lamp repair shop...
    tried a farm supply store...
    tried Grainger Industrial Supply...
    tried several tire stores...
tried a specialty bicycle tube manufacturer I found on the Web...

Finally called a motorcycle shop. And lo and behold, they had a half-dozen in a parts drawer they'd taken off old motorcycle inner tubes years ago. They just gave them to me for free because they no longer needed them.

So I commend you to your local pack-rat motorcycle mechanic, if you need some of those nuts.

And my wife says I'm obsessive about the airplane...
