Note for information on New Millennimum A-65 cylinders
Well we pulled the cylinders, and found the piston pin two big for the rods. Had to pull the rods, order new bushings,(Fresno Air Parts) send them to Air West , San Carlos for reaming and installation in the rods... Superior API nor J & J Air Parts advised us about the possible different shaft sizes... The ones that were in the engine were the " smaller, with thicker walls" as noted in a log book entry.

There are a couple of pistons (Continental mfg) that are approved for the A65 : p/n 4648, 4 ring piston which uses a .859 in diameter piston pin and p/n 40731, 3 ring piston which uses a .9215 in diameter piston pin. Sounds like your engine had the early pistons (4648) installed.
There is an early AD note (AD46-36-01) which requires replacement of the small diameter piston pins, if the inside diameter of the pin is greater than 0.5945 inch, with pins of an I.D. of 0.5945 inch.
